Szintra's Flute Music

Listen to the Classical Flute and the Chinese Dizi Bamboo Flute

My Origins

The Story Behind My Flutes

I never really found my place in the world of classical music. Although it taught me to work hard and with discipline, to be humble towards art and to master the necessary craft, I never really felt free. It was only when I started improvising and playing my own music that my relationship with my classical flute became truly intimate. I learned to shed the clichés of the classical music world and integrate the flute into other areas. Because with simple melodies, without virtuosity and a crystal-clear sound, you can touch people's hearts just as much, if not more. Today, I love experimenting and incorporating this instrument into unusual environments and creating new soundscapes.

The journey Begins

The Chinese Dizi

When I bought a dizi from an instrument maker in the Summer Palace in Beijing in 2011, something clicked inside me. I kept the flute in a drawer for years because the instrument maker sold me the membrane but not the glue (ejiao), so I couldn't play it. Until I had the idea of sticking a transparent, waterproof plaster on it. From then on, I played the instrument again and again, even though I didn't really like the sound, even at a children's concert for 0-3-year-olds. It wasn't until 2024 that I felt a strong urge to play the dizi. I got hold of some ejiao and stuck a real dimo on the flute. From that moment on, I felt so connected to it, as if I had been playing it for centuries and countless lives. I love the natural, slightly smoky, warm sound of this instrument. In the lower registers, it caresses and envelops me with its warm, dark brown sound. In the higher registers, it makes my heart shine and blossom, and I feel so at one with the atmosphere created by the flute that I could float inside it forever. I am deeply in love with the dizi and my biggest wish is to properly learn how to play the instrument in its homeland of China.

BONUS ALERT!

What do I want to achieve?

Whether playing the classical or Chinese flute, I want to convey a sense of angelic lightness, floating on air, and a feeling of calm. My flute playing should help you shed the burdens of everyday life and arrive at an airy height where you can be free of worries.
